As a kid, beach plums only existed for me as a jelly that appeared around Christmastime. While every August I was taken out to pick blueberries, beach plums only ripened once I was back in Connecticut for school. Now I watch intently as the little orbs turn from green to purple.

French fries are my biggest summer vice (yes, I’m boring). I often buy some in Lopes Square and eat them on the wharf. This evening I was treated to an early moon rise and spectacular sunset.

Walking past the Hans Hofmann house, I recently came across a case of life imitating art. Through his technique, called “push and pull,” Hofmann proposed that the illusion of space, depth, and movement could be created abstractly using color and shape, rather than traditional perspective. This bright, yellow sunflower, against the cool shadow on Hofmann’s house, really pops.

Fog has an emotional quality charged with metaphysical force. We enter it with questions and emerge illuminated, or having fallen in love. That’s all I need from summer nights.
