The Art House came into its present form following a significant renovation in 2006. In 2007, the restaurant space was leased to chef Steven Frappolli, and he founded Frappo66. With each passing year they’ve been proud to host Provincetown’s top entertainers. 2010 saw significant improvements to the bar and dining room areas. One thing is for certain, and that is at Art House we will continually strive to provide patrons with a superior entertainment and dining experience. Varla Jean’s Relieving Herself, July 1 – August 27: Varla Jean Merman is the purported love child of Ethel Merman and Ernest Borgnine. After a typically busy past couple of years starring to critical acclaim as the title roles in the original musical comedy farces « Mildred Fierce » in Boston, « Scrooge in Rouge » in New Orleans, Menotti’s opera « The Medium » in New York, and her new show « Twice Upon A Mattress…Will My Prince Ever Come? »at The Art House in Provincetown, Varla also debuted her first show on London’s West End in a decade with her popular hit « The Book of Merman. » The daffy diva-turned-author described her hit show as being « equal parts pop-up book, scratch ‘n sniff, and Braille. »
Anthony DeMare, July 18 & 19: Anthony de Mare is internationally recognized as one of the world’s most versatile pianists, and one of its foremost champions of contemporary music. Having been praised by The New York Times for his « muscularly virtuosic, remarkably uninhibited performance [and] impressive talents, » his provocative and engaging programs are known to have « a theatrical twist… more akin to a show than to a recital. » In the process, he has inspired the creation of dozens of new works by some of today’s most distinguished artists.
Adam Pascal, July 26 & 27: Tony-nominee and Obie and Theatre World Award winner Adam Pascal, has created some of the most memorable roles in recent Broadway history. He shot to stardom for originating the role of Roger in the Broadway blockbuster « Rent, » as well as the London production, and starred in the film version. On July 26 and 27 he returns to Ptown in the acclaimed Broadway @ The Art House series, where he joins pianist and host Seth Rudetsky for an unforgettable evening of conversation and song.
Megan Hilty, August 13 – 18: Megan Hilty was a breakout star of NBC’s « Smash » and starred on Broadway in « Wicked » and « 9 to 5: The Musical. » She most recently starred as Liz on NBC’s « Sean Saves The World » with Sean Hayes of « Will & Grace » fame. She returns to The Art House this summer by popular demand after her sold-out debut at the theater last summer. A native of Seattle, Megan made her Broadway debut as Glinda in « Wicked » shortly after graduating from prestigious Carnegie Mellon University, and went on to perform the role in both the national tour and in Los Angeles. She has also appeared on New York stages as Lorelei Lee in the Encores! production of « Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, » for which she earned rave reviews.
Bryan Batt, August 24 & 25: Bryan Batt has won two Screen Actor’s Guild awards for his portrayal of « Salvatore Romano » on AMC’s critically acclaimed, Emmy award winning dramatic series « Mad Men ». He created the role of Darius in both the N.Y. and L.A (Drama Logue Award) productions as well as the film adaptation of Paul Rudnick’s ground breaking comedy « Jeffrey. » Other films include « 12 Years a Slave, » « Parkland, » and « The Last of Robin Hood. »
Well Strung – Popssical, June 30 – September 20: Well-Strung has quickly gained national and international attention for their unique mash-up of string quartet and boy band. The foursome features classical musicians who sing, putting their own spin on classical and pop music. In the midst of their first international concert tour and their first major magazine cover spread, Well-Strung, The Singing String Quartet, made their NBC Today Show debut on « Today with Kathie Lee & Hoda » on Tuesday, March 18. They have been referred to as « absolutely amazing » by BBC Radio host Jo Good during their recent London debut, and as « the hottest thing with a bow since Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games » by the New York Daily News. This brand new show written and performed by Well-Strung is directed by Donna Drake and features the music of Beethoven, Ravel, Madonna, U2 and Miley Cyrus. The group most recently played sold out shows at 54 Below in New York as well as Feinstein’s in San Francisco. They made their debut on London’s West End at the Leicester Square Theatre earlier this fall. The foursome’s debut album was released on Twist Records on February 28, and was produced by Matt Farber (Founder of LOGO Network) and Mark Cortale. The group first began gaining notoriety in their initial performances in Provincetown.
