What in the World around you affects your Creativity?

I am most inspired by beauty and the way that others see themselves. I also look for the repeated patterns in life like shapes and patterns found in nature and artifice

 What changes do you see in the Fashion and Art scene today…?

It seems that things change every decade and the things we thought were in vogue are replaced by an earlier decades styles with little twists to them. I love fashion and have been aware of it since I was a child. I see art differently, as a constant changing perspective that comes about with every new generation of artists.

What in Your Life  inspires your work?

I am inspired by the kindness of strangers and the innocence of children. I can also be moved by the jaded and lethargic to create something new.

 What makes people respond to Photography?

I think people respond to my photographs because they see themselves in my imagery and it allows them to look at themselves in a new way.

Was there a  « shining lightbulb » moment in your career when you realized that you were an artist? If so what was it?

When Andy Warhol invited me to his factory to look at my portfolio and told me how inspired my work was. So inspired that he told his assistant to figure out how Andy could make silk screens from my images. I picked up my portfolio and ran for the door.

How hard is it for an Artist to survive in the world we live in today?

The world we live in today is difficult not only for artists but for anyone looking to create. The instant world of social media makes everyone a celebrity if they just keep posting their work. True artistry still exists but is hard to find in a world of millennials who think that the smallest effort and intention is equal to the actual work. They will tell you they will buy your book/son having said so feel no need to follow through because telling you they’ll buy your book/song/art  is the same thing as actually buying the book/song/art.

Beauty & The Beast

What is it about Ptown that keeps you and other creative people living there or coming back ?

For me I came to live in Ptown because my husband lived here and he wasn’t going to move to NYC. And after 35 years in the city I thought it was a good time to leave. Ptown has been an inspiration to me because of the many different people that pass through here as well as the serious artists that reside here year round.

Visual Virtuosity is something that seems to be stretched to new heights these days with IPhone and such. Taking a good picture has become to goal of many. Its  good to see the work of someone who has kept true to the Art of Photography. Helping to expand its boundaries while still paying homage to the stylized beauty and perfection of a craft that has been handed downed for a few centuries. Seems to me that Provincetown is the perfect place to meld the past to the present and create the future. Something many Artists have been doing here and seem to continue to do hopefully will do for a long time to come!
